Saag Paneer is an Indian dish made of a delicious mix of spinach (and other greens), spices, onions, garlic and Paneer cheese. Traditional Saag Paneer takes hours to make. This is a quick and easy version you can make at home!
Easy Saag Paneer
1 tsp turmeric
2 1/4 tsp salt
4 tbsp oil
1 block Paneer Cheese (approx. 12-14 oz), cut into 1-inch pieces
1 package frozen chopped spinach
1 onion, diced
6 cloves garlic, diced very fine
3/4 tsp garam masala spice mix
2 1/2 tsp ground coriander
1 1/2 tsp cumin
1 tsp ground ginger
3/4 cup plain yogurt
Mix 3 tbsp oil, 1 1/4 tsp salt and turmeric together. Add Paneer and mix thoroughly. Set aside.
Thaw spinach if you have not done so, yet. Microwave for 3-4 minutes and break up with your hands of food processor. Squeeze most of liquid out of spinach. Set aside.
Place nonstick skillet over medium heat and add Paneer, heating for 2-3 minutes. After bottom is golden brown, flip paneer and sauté for another 1-2 minutes. Place Paneer pieces on plate.
Using same pan, add 2 tbsp oil, and onions and a pinch of salt.
Sauté on medium/low heat for approx. 7-10 minutes.
Add garlic and sauté another 5 minutes.
Add spice blend of garam masala, coriander, cumin, ginger and remaining 1 tsp salt. If pan looks to dry, add some water. Cook on medium heat for approx. 5 minutes.
Add spinach and mix thoroughly. Cook another 3-5 minutes.
Turn off heat and add yogurt in increments, thoroughly combining between.
Finally, add Paneer, you can turn heat back on low to heat the cheese back up.
Serve over a bed of rice and ENJOY!
