Happy National Arbor Day!
American's first Arbor Day took place in the 1870's, right around the same time the US established Yellowstone National Park. Many state observe Arbor Day on different day, based on when the best tree planting times are in their state. While Alaska is the 3rd Monday of May, Florida is the 3rd Friday in January.
This is a great day to go for a hike and appreciate the nature that surrounds us. In Alaska, we are so lucky that most of us live in areas where we can literally walk outside our front door and find a large natural park or forest within minutes.
So, take a hike on Arbor Day!
